How Gymshark Turned Free Tshirts Into Free Advertising
sherifffruitfly: I always found it weird how willing the public is the do a company's advertising for free.
shaunw8360: People who wear gymshark are usually whoppers
maxiscrubian4722: "Lucky feature"... You mean extremely simple marketing thing that no wealthy person would wear?
hiyorioh: I’m always embarrassed to wear clothes that have words or brand names on them lol
Vormav777: I will never understad the people that this works on. I just use a generic black t-shirt, generic grey sweatpants, generic everything. xd Could not care less about the brand, just how it looks on me.
Clembo: I hate the brand but the marketing is peak.
MikeyJAllTheWay: The original t shirt design was a big shark flexing its bicep if I remember correctly. It was very of the era. What they have now is super subtle. At the time there weren’t any gym wear brands really that were for men. You’d just wear a Nike t shirt etc. or some people wore that nike pro top that then became like the under armour and it was the advent of YouTube in the main stream for tutorial videos basically and gymshark brought out some solid tops that were half way between a t shirt and the under armour tops and very different and almost alone in the market they also saw the value of trust in influencers early and bam!
I’d say there were equal parts luck and judgement in the gym shark story in the beginning it seemed like it was an almost perfect confluence of events a ton of hard work in the background to stay relevant I’d imagine.
The guy has adapted to the market and his customers fantastically and then handed over to others when his own knowledge ran out. In hindsight it’s masterful.
I’d imagine they are peaking with gen z and the business will plateau and maintain for a number of years before inevitably shrinking as working out cycles out of its peak popularity as all things do. Looks like they’ve been combatting that future by getting into sports rather than lifestyle gym as well. Again masterful adaptation.
I’d say it has a lot less to do with the name printed on the shirt than this video makes out….
Jrichards30: And the sponsor clear steroid users so probably the biggest influence on steroid use
