The New Amazon Merch AI TShirt Designer That Has Creators Worried

marisacaruana9809: In my opinion, busy people can't be bothered to create their own t-shirt, remove the background, and edit. They want to select and order.
MysticMary-g9s: People are incredibly uncreative. I wouldn't worry about it.
HaiderSubhi: Just an advice to anyone if you don't want to get affected by this change you need to make your designs hard for Amazon's AI to replicate..... That means staying away from low effort 'AI slop!' and text-only designs If you can easily make it with AI, so can everyone else!!!!
LifesDeath: Customers have no vision. But to be fair...most amz sellers don't either.
OmarMohamed-o3v5o: Amazon greed won't stop
taperewindclub: What really conserns me is that Amazon is actively working to remove royalty payments. They first started by promoting listings ata a discunt Taken 100% from sellers royalties, this year they started the royalties tiers but with the detail that now the base royalties is half. They reduced 50% of income overnight. I wonder what Will be next. At this point is not crazy to think that they would charge a fee to upload to Amazon merch.
TheVillagesChief: Well said Philip
haodothanh7327: Sounds like a cool idea on paper, but honestly, it’s probably just Amazon testing the waters. Actually making it work is a whole different story. Plus, the crazy cost of running AI could end up distracting Amazon from what they actually do best—selling stuff. People are naturally lazy and love to shop, plain and simple. At the end of the day, it’ll take time for customers to try it out and then just go right back to their old shopping habits. Curiosity only lasts so long.
minarcora7476: I'm concerned that Amazon might become a direct competitor by using AI to generate custom T-shirt designs whenever a customer searches for one, then instantly displaying those designs on T-shirts for the customer to buy.
rafaaBenmadani: Pod brand stores are the solution, we don't own anything at Amazon.
ahmidziad7870: I feel that this is something that will develop in the future and will take our place.
jaceborg: It's been a long time coming and will only get better. There is truth in saying that people buy our ideas, but most merch sellers get their ideas from AI so it will end up offering everything a merch seller does in the not too distant future.
flo2799: It will keep evolving and it’s going to get insanely good. When someone searches for “dog shirts,” Amazon will automatically generate a bunch of designs that we’ll have to compete with. Deep down, we all know this is the future.

I don’t think it will ever completely replace us, because research and trend hunting will still matter. But in one or two years, I might search for a cute “6–7” dinosaur shirt, and because Amazon knows I like golden retrievers, it could instantly show me ten personalized designs combining dinosaurs, golden retrievers, and the “6–7” theme.

That’s why I don’t think customers will need to customize or design products themselves. If the algorithm sees a high chance of making a sale, it will generate personalized designs within seconds.
onlinemarmer6051: I agree with you on every point, and it’s absolutely true. However, I believe our biggest threat is the intense competition; now, anyone can execute any idea using AI, which is what's truly scary. It's not about Amazon replacing us, and my proof is that Amazon keeps adding more products. So, the real danger is just competition. There is also an additional risk of people getting bored, but looking at the market trends, that still seems far off.
etucker5007: Its not really a threat for now, but eventually the AI will be able to edit and background remove. So long term this will be a threat, I think eventually the amazon search bar will automatically generate images based on customers search. That is too expensive for now l, but will get cheaper over time.
MrSkeoty: It’s been like that for at least two months now... I haven't seen any deterioration so far.
gypsymorning8558: Eventually, the search terms will generate shirts to choose from.
musicteacherengel: Agreed. Obviously there are 10K customers every month doing this, but I don't think it's going to have a significant impact on POD sellers for a while, if ever. I do see this having more of an impact on local silkscreen companies. As a teacher, there have been times when I would have wanted to do a small run of custom shirts for students, and I would have taken advantage of this "Upload your own design" option. (That situation is actually what got me into POD in the first place.) But as a POD seller, I'm not too intimidated by this new option by Amazon yet.
thefrankring: Amazon Merch keeps adding new products as well. Sure, shirt is definitely the biggest market, but still.
